General Knowledge A-Thon.
We have been learning our General Knowledge A-Thon where we have 75 questions and we have to research them and get the answers. I have already learnt them off by heart! What is a tsnuami? It is a tiger wave from an earthquake. I hope everyone gets them all right and we have a lot of sponsors! I know them automatically. Do you? Keep learning!
Flight
This term we are studying flight.We are going to the Ardmore Airport to look at how planes fly and what makes them fly. Did you know that the hot air balloon was the first object to fly. The Mongolofia Brothers tested it and they put a dog,a rooster and a duck in it because it was too scary! The Wright Brothers were the first people to fly all the flying objects. That must of taken a lot of time to do and test! In room 18 we have been doing cardboard relief art for flight art. We had to draw a picture of a flying object. I chose the hot air balloon. When we finished drawing we had to cut out pieces of cardboard and stick them on our picture. Then we are going to roll coloured ink on our picture and then put it through an old washing machine wringer so it will press down. When we finish they will look fabulous because we are doing a timeline of the first flying objects to the recent time that they have been tested.

Duffy Book Character Day
On Wednesday we had a Duffy Book Character Day, where we had to dress up as our favourite book character. I dressed up as Naomi the netball fairy. She is from Rainbow Magic. We all had to walk around the netball court in front of our parents. We all also recieved our Duffy books! There were so many cool costumes, Isaac even dressed up as Michael Jackson! It was an awesome day!

Our lovely student teacher !
We have a new student teacher called Miss Young! Miss Young is from Papaunewgini and she is so lovely! We have had her for 4 or 5 weeks now and we love it! She is sadly leaving next Thursday, but we know she will come and visit us again! She is teaching us a tap and slap dance whch is very hard! ut we can get i straight away if we practice more and more! First you go slap clap slap then you pause. Now try slap, slap clap slap. It might sound hard but is very easy to learn. Miss Young is very good at it and that is her talent we think because we are all good at something!

In Rm 18 we have been focusing on our school mural! We first had to draw a big leaf that took up the whole page, then we had to see what we wanted to draw that made our school special! We are still working on it! But we are using water colouring pencils that if we put water on it they will smudge! When we are finished we will take a photo and put it on our school website! Hope you enjoy them and they will be on our wall in Rm 18!

Botanical Gardens
On Tuesday rm18,rm 20 and rm 16 went to the Botanical Gardens. We looked at natures recycling in the bush with Susie. When leaves drop to the ground, it's all like a leaf life cycle which keeps going and going. When a leaf dies it gets eaten by worms, then the worms drag it under the soil for bacteria to help break through the leaf and turn it into fresh soil. Then the soil makes more plants and trees, when more trees grow more leaves fall off, and worms and bacteria do the same thing again and again. When a leaf falls off the tree it's green, but when it's yellow it's kind of starting to die but when the leaf is brown it's dead then it will be turned into soil by what Susie calls them decomposers. We would need a microscope or a magnifying glass to see bacteria, but it does alot to help save our world from harmful pollution.
Next we went and made worm farms, first we talked about making compost heaps. We thought it was quite yuck to put horse poo in. Susie showed us how to make a worm farm, it went like this:
1. Get a container with a hole at the bottom so the worm wee can drain through.
2. Put pumice stones at the bottom so the worm wee can drain. Then put a layer of guave on top of the pumice stones, sothe worms can wriggle through and have a little swim.
3. Put a little bit of soil and tiger worms on top of the guave.
4. Put your left over food scraps on top of the tiger worms.
5. Put wet newspaper on top of the left over food scraps or you could put a old carpet on the container, because the tiger worms like the dark and so they don't get eaten by birds.
6. Feed your tiger worms often with left over food scraps, but don't feed them too much because they might be too full. Watch your worm farm grow!

Term 2
This term there is an I.C.T group. A couple of people from each class from the middle school are learning how to make our own interesting blogs on the internet. We are learning how to also use the internet saftily and carefully but also making it a fun time. We will be editing them every week and keeping you all updated on what we are doing. Hope you like them!
We have been doing wonderful art on animals because we were looking at animals and their habitats. First we hade to draw the animals pattern in pencil then we coloured them in with pastel which was very hard because we were not allowed to smuge our drawing. The background was next we chose the colour of the habitat that the animal would mostly live in. Ms Turner went around them in black smelly PVA Glue. Our next picture was one of the animals features like a head. They look stunning!

This term we are looking at pollution and how we can stop it from harming our world. Pollution is sometimes made from smoke coming out of the factories. We are going on a wonderful trip to the Botanical Gardens to look at how they stop pollution and different ways they stop pollution. We are reading stories and thinking about how we can stop pollution. We are also so looking at recycling to help our world.
We found out some interesting facts. I didn't know that oil and water don't mix. We watched an experiment about how water and oil don't mix. A medium sized ship like the Proteuse carries 125,0000 litres of oil in each 12 cargos it holds. The oil is made of crude oil from the ground. This crude oil is made for petrol for cars, trucks,buses and aeroplanes, but first they need to do somethings to the crude oil because you can't put it straight into the cars because it needs to be turned into liquid before you put it into your car.
